Another version of the Blog (yay for the haircut!) In it, I discuss: -YouTube censoring my Vlog criticizing their YouTube copyright school, and replacing it on the "Related Videos" page with Rebecca Black's "Friday", -A quick review on the Sony Alpha A230L digital SLR camera (thumbs up, definitely try it!) Go to Photobucket and search for WitnessDSLR for more pictures! -A message to former Sixpence None The Richer and Nettwerk/Sirens of Song artist Leigh Nash, who I want to come back and make an album (her song with SNTR "Kiss Me" was my mom's wedding song from me!) Comments....
I currently own a Sony Alpha A230L DSLR digital camera. It comes with a built in flash, but it is often not powerful enough in certain situations (kind of a deer-in-the-headlights flash). Anyways, I have a little extra money this month, so I was wondering (for any camera enthusiast), keeping the iISO propietary hot shoe in mind, what is the best onboard (hot shoe) flash that I can get for a Sony Alpha A230L DSLR (preferably less than $300)? Thanks :)
Best Answer Best bang for buck flash for Sony... the Metz 50. Cheaper than the FV42 or FV43, more powerful than either, and all the bells and whistles you could want. It will work as a wireless slave to the Sony ADI system, although I don't remember off the top of my head if your camera has the flash controller built in or not. Sigma also does Sony flashes, the new 610 Super would also be a decent choice. I would avoid the FV20 from Sony... just not enough power or features for the cost.
Will the Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A230L Digital SLR Camera with Sony DT 18-55mm lens work with my Tamron AF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 LD TELE-MACRO[1:3.9] lens that is currently on my MINOLTA ST SL MAXXUM film camera?
Best Answer Yes it will work and the auto-focus will work also since sony purchased minolta and the use the same lens mounts.

This is the lightest EF lens of all at a mere 4.6 oz. (130g). Compact and high-performance, standard lens. Its Gaussian optics provide sharp delineation from near to far focusing distances. The color balance is excellent for a standard lens.

Bring your photographic subjects closer with this Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer Telephoto Zoom Lens. It is designed with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology and is compact and light. This high zoom ratio lens is equivalent to a focal length of 88-400mm in the 35mm format (when used on Canon EOS cameras compatible with EF-S lenses). The image stabilizer effect is equivalent to a shutter speed about 4 stops faster than the same size lens without Image Stabilizer. In other words, if the slowest shutter speed you could formerly hold a 250mm lens steadily was 1/250th of a second, with Canon's 4-stop stabilization correction, you could hand-hold at shutter speeds as slow as 1/15th of a second. It also uses a UD-glass lens element to correct chromatic aberration for excellent image quality throughout the zoom range. Filter Size - 58mm Max. Diameter - x Length 2.8 in. x 4.3 in./70 x 108mm (maximum lens length) Weight - 13.8 oz./390g Canon 1 year limited warranty

Featuring the latest 3-stop Image Stabilizer for outstanding camera shake reduction, the EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM zoom lens also features super responsive autofocus. Replacing the popular EF 75-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM, the world's first interchangeable lens with Image Stabilizer (IS), the lens is expected to appeal to serious amateur nature and sports photographers looking to achieve outstanding results while shooting hand held.
Features
- 70-300mm focal length
- EF mount; telephoto zoom lens
- 3-stop Image Stabilizer for outstanding camera shake reduction
- Electro-magnetic diaphragm (EMD) helps create an attractive, even defocused background at large apertures
- Ring-type UltraSonic Motor (USM)

Rotates so that you get the exact amount of shading that you require from the sun - Locking clamp thread design so you can mount on an adapter or ring and still rotate the lens hood - Lightweight and portable - Protects your lens and camera from accidental damage - Easy to use: just screw it on the way a filter would. Rotate to the right to tighten, rotate to the left to detach - 3 Year Limited Warranty

You can use the camera mount coupling adapter and lens mount coupling adapter alone or with combination of any or all three extension tubes for extreme Macro photography. Since there is no other optical components been added, the image preserve the original optical property of the lens. This is a much desired way to turn your existing lens into a MACRO LENS.

The EOS 50D is built around a 15 megapixels APS-C CMOS sensor and incorporates the latest DIGIC 4 processor to enable a wide ISO sensitivity range up to 12800. More at www.digitalrev.com
I don't have enough knowledge about camera lens. I just bought a new canon camera EOS 50D. I am also planning to buy zoom lens but I have no idea what is the best lens for EOS 50D. Your recommendation is highly appreciated. Thank you.
Best Answer For the 50D you will need a 'good' lens if you want excellent image quality. A cheap telephoto lens is not a good idea for a camera like this, so don't even think about getting a budget one that only costs a couple of hundred dollars or so, because it won't deliver on image quality and will not be good enough for lower lighting. One with a wider (faster) aperture of f/2.8 is an excellent choice. From the Canon lens/camera review site below (of the 50D)... "Because the quality of the lens makes a big difference in the image quality delivered by a DSLR - especially one with the resolution of the 50D, I recommend buying (now or later), one of the better Canon general purpose lenses available. At this review date, the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens is my most-recommended 1.6x lens with the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM Lens being excellent alternatives." Another excellent lens with a longer starting focal length is the EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L, with or without IS or the f/4 version with or without IS. Check out the links below for reviews of all the lenses above (and the 50D) and other lenses...
I have decided to buy Canon EOS 50D, will focus on pets & wildlife photography, so I need to know which is the best kit to go for ? With 18-200mm, 17-85mm, 28-135mm or 18-135mm ? Quite a lot of people recommended 17-55mm, so should I just buy the camera body and this lens separately ?
Best Answer For a general type lens, get the 17-55, I have it & it performs brilliantly..but don't buy it with a kit. Get the body only & choose a lens after, as kit lenses are generally low quality. You said pets & wildlife though. Wildlife photography requires a very long lens, especially for birds. If you have money to burn, get the EF 100-400 f4.5-5.6 IS. If not, canon has quite a few cheap 70-300 lenses that perform decently. With that said...if your not doing anything too important (books, magazines, print sales, etc.) then the lower quality lenses will work fine.

A dramatic, eye catching photo can mean dramatic profits. Getting a well exposed photo is extremely important. Photographers often turn to a flash to help light the scene. The problem is that flash can cause harsh reflections or glare spots or create deep shadows that distract viewers. This little, portable universal external flash diffuser will prevent those problems when using a flash. Simply put the unit over the camera's flash, point and shoot. The light will be softened and your photos will be well exposed, without the harsh glare spots.

Quick camera test of a family friend performing some awesome tricks with a diablo. Shot with Pentax kr on default settings.
Which camera and WHY***?
Best Answer Film? MX, full manual mode in a small size. Digital? K-x. The number of settings you can tinker with it makes it more than what it's worth even if you take out LiveView and video.
I need help to understand every bit of detail to such as: 1. shutter speed 2. aperture 3. load a film 4. compatible flash 5. what is the ideal shutter speed for outdoor and indoor shots. 6. What is the basic purpose of battery slot.
Best Answer The Owner's Manual for the camera should explain everything. Another excellent resource is "How To Choose & Use Pentax SLR Cameras" by Carl Shipman. Its an expanded version of the Owner's Manual with more illustrations and lengthier explanations of your camera's features and functions. I also suggest "Object & Image: An Introduction To Photography, Third Edition" by George M. Craven.

I am completely new to photography. How in the world does this work? Also how do you edit photos when you take pictures with the Canon EOS 5D? Is there some kind of software that comes with it or do you have to buy something? Confused.
Best Answer Great camera! This is what I'm talking about. Even if you don't know a thing about photography, you can buy the best you can afford. It will give you more reasons to learn the craft better. Lenses? See this page to understand focal lengths. http://keerok-photography.blogspot.com/2011/05/lenses-so-many-of-them-there-is-no-best.html How to edit? For starters, if you get it right in-camera, you won't need to edit but if you insist, just copy your picture from the camera to the computer and use any program you wish. Photoshop is the most popular. You were able to afford such a fine camera, buying a few good books about Photoshop shouldn't hurt you. There are also a lot of tutorial sites on the web, some for free. http://pelfusion.com/tutorials/27-excellent-digital-photography-tutorials/ Software? If you don't shoot in RAW (I advise you don't), you won't need any software in the CD. Just keep that CD in a safe place though. You may need it someday. For transferring pictures to the computer, everything you need is already in your computer. For trouble-free transfers, get a cheap (really cheap, not expensive) USB card reader for connecting your camera's memory card directly to the computer. http://keerok-photography.blogspot.com/2011/09/detailed-instructions-on-how-to.html
I am looking for a camera similar to the Canon EOS 5D Mark II but ranges between 200 to 900 anything basically less than a 1000 but also has features similar to the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. Is there anything like that? Recommendations if possible.
Best Answer there is nothing under $1000 that will match the technical quality and performance of the 5D Mark II. There is a reason that it is $2500 Besides that, what you would want is an entry level DSLR camera which will provide you with excellent results, which, to a novice, would be impossible to differentiate between it and the 5d's picture quality. the 5D's sensor is a full frame sensor, which is larger than an entry level's APS-C sized sensor. That is where the massive price difference comes in. Look at the Canon T2i and T3i if you want to stick to Canon you can also look at the Nikon D3100 and D5100

The Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye Lens is an excellent addition to any photographer's collection, giving users the ability to expand their creativity and capture incredible scenes from a truly unique perspective.
This manual focus lens, when used with cameras with an APS-C image sensor, creates images with an expanded perspective, including images with a creatively deformed outlook and a sharp pan focus that extends throughout the entire frame. By offering a 180-degree angle of view, this fisheye lens can be used to create amazing image expressions that cannot be seen by the human eye, such as exaggerated perspective and distortion. The minimum shooting distance (just 12 inches) and large depth of field also provide amazing close-up shots.
In addition, this lens incorporates the latest optical multi-coating techniques. The process of multi-coating assures virtually flare-free photographs even under adverse lighting conditions, resulting in crisp, high-contrast pictures.
Key Features:
♦ Conforms to APS-C (1:1.5x) size digital imaging format
♦ Actualizes 8mm focal length and a diagonal angle of view of 180 degrees for APS-C size
♦ Corrects aberrations using a complex aspherical lens. When fully opened, it produces both high resolution and high contrast at the center of the lens, as well as around the periphery of the lens.
♦ Petal type hood and multi-coating help control flaring and ghosting
♦ Offers robust durability by incorporating a rigid aluminum base frame
♦ Super Spectra lens multi-coating
♦ Minimum focusing distance of 12 inches (0.3m)

This video features the complete un-boxing of the new Sony Alpha a500 DSLR. Featuring a 12.3MP megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor with live view, Auto HDR, face detection, smile shutter and Super Steadyshot in body image stabilization.
Tell me anything and everything! I'm looking at buying my first DSLR and i want to make sure i'm making a good choice. I'm also looking at maybe getting a Nikon D3100. Which one do you think is better?
Best Answer The A500 is far superior to the D3100. The A500 is a mid-range dSLR, the D3100 is a budget dSLR.
ok so im looking for a good entry level DSLR, i will be using it for street photography so nothing that would require a specialized or particularly fast camera. i want one with im built image stabilization and one that would cost around £450 or $700, ive came across a few like the pentax k-x and quite liked that but was recomended the sony alpha a500 as it has higher mp, would you recommend either of them?? or maybe something different??
Best Answer I'll cast my vote for the A500. Just to add to the other answer, Minolta Maxxum AF lenses are fully compatible with the A500 and all other Sony DSLR cameras. The older Minolta SR mount manual focus lenses can be used but require an adapter. If you're looking to upgrade your lens line then find a Maxxum AF 70-210mm f4 zoom - the legendary "beer can". I own the older manual focus version since I still shoot film and if anything happened to it I'd be looking for a replacement.

Which camera and WHY***?
Best Answer Film? MX, full manual mode in a small size. Digital? K-x. The number of settings you can tinker with it makes it more than what it's worth even if you take out LiveView and video.
I'll go through all the details since I'm not sure which are the relevant ones for the prognosis. The camera is a Pentax K100D digital SLR. It was given to me by a friend who was the first owner. I bought a new SD memory card for it and the camera displayed "Memory Card Error" the first time I put it in and every time I re-tried it after that. I tried it in another camera (a digital compact) and it gave the same error message. This memory card was Class 10/Gold, 4GB (forget brand). The guy at the store I bought it at looked the camera up on the net to ensure it is the best card for that camera. The store I bought the card from was JB Hi-Fi, a general consumer electronics and CD, DVD and games store, i.e. not a specialty camera store. I took the card back to the store and they told me it must be a bad card and gave me another the same. I tried it immediately after leaving the store and it got the same error message so I took that back to the store and the guy then told me the card was the wrong one for the camera (said he owned the same model camera) because the card was too fast for the camera. He gave me a Panasonic Class 4/Silver 4GB card, the brand he used for his own same-model camera. I tried that card but by then the batteries had run down and I had to recharge them before trying it again. (The batteries showed half power when I got the camera. I had accidentally left it on overnight the night before I went back to the store and tried the second and third SD cards.) I got "Memory Card Error" again. The camera appears to work otherwise - when I operate the shutter release it auto-focuses etc. and the image appears on the LCD display. It just does not recognise cards I've tried so far. I am about to go back to the store again or ask for advice at a camera store and also ask a professional photographer I know. But if anyone here can give me advice before that time it's welcome. Thanks. retiredPhil - Thanks. I forgot about formatting. But I formatted it just now and the camera displayed Memory Card Error again after formatting (or attempting it). I checked again (switching camera off and on) and still got the same. My PC is not responding to the card at all when I insert it into MMC/SD port. I thought the "card is too fast" explanation sounded wrong too. The Pentax website says SD cards up to 2GB (Panasonic and SanDisk) or 1GB (Toshiba) are compatible, though it doesn't specifically say not to go higher. Possibly higher memory sizes were not available at that time. Camera R - Thanks. I'll try getting the older type of card. This might also be the reason my PC can't read it, since it is also over five years old. It's odd if these older cards aren't still sold retail though, since the cameras are only a few years old and of good quality. Not something people want to throw away just because they lose or damage the card.
Best Answer Look on the card. "SDHC" cards (4GB and higher) were not available at that time. Although the card looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different. ALL older cameras that were made before this format came out a few years ago just do not work with this card. Your camera can only use standard SD cards (2GB or less). You can still purchase standard SD cards on Amazon, and they're relatively inexpensive.

Sony alpha a330 dslr camera/18-55mm lens Canon EOS Rebel XSi DSLR camera/18-55mm 15 lens These are basically in my radar after browsing through what camera's my best buy did supply in my price range, and while Canon is generally better (I actually own one now, I'm kind of partial to them) the Sony looks pretty good...so, I'm a bit stuck. I'm also open to suggestions of D-SLR's that are under 700 dollars.
Best Answer First of all Sony A330 is the new body but same technical specification of Sony A300. Advantage of Sony is you can use old Minolta lenses and they are cheap and nice. But high ISO is not a plus since it is using CCD sensor. EOS XSi has better image wuality and higher resolution. Actually If you can wait ans spend more for lenses I will advice you XSi. You can check technical specifications from here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_eos400d%2Csony_dslra330&show=all
Best Answer Sony never stands in front of Nikon. there is never a comparison. Nikon D3000 is a fare winner with 18-55mm VR lens

So I've had this bag since I bought my first SLR (the nikon D3000) about 2 years ago. I haven't really used the bag since I upgraded to the D7000 this past year. The bag itself isn't anything really special, but if you are just a casual shooter who wants a bag that doesn't really scream, I have an expensive camera in here, then this bag might be worth looking at. Again, I warn you that this is designed for entry level SLR cameras and will have trouble handling larger set ups. The quality of the bag is fairly good for the price you are paying, but the lack of space and compartments is a major downside. One good thing about having this bag in your collection is that when you need something small to carry for the day, you have this inexpensive option. My other two bags get used more frequently now, but I still hold onto this bag, for those particular occasions.
I have an Asahi Pentax K1000 that I'd like to tote around in the most minimal case possible. Minimal padding. Just enough to fit my Pentax and an extra roll of film and that's it. Just very very minimal. With a strap. Just absolutely the only pocket should be the main section to put the camera. No special secret pockets or mesh. Just a space for my camera and a roll of film on either side of the lens. Very simple. Please and thank you.
Best Answer i was googling and found bag for you on the following sites. which has really good bags. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=SLR+camera+bag&x=0&y=0&tag=pntsa-20
I'm thinking of buying this camera from a friend. It's about 6-8 years old and in relatively good condition with just a few minor scratches and a small dent. It's complete with the body, 35-80mm lens and a bag too. I need a rough estimate of how much it costs in Philippine peso if possible but American dollars would also be ok. Thanks.
Best Answer I've had a look around for you and the average price is between 1,737.97 PHP - 3,041.44 PHP. Hope this helps.

This is the lightest EF lens of all at a mere 4.6 oz. (130g). Compact and high-performance, standard lens. Its Gaussian optics provide sharp delineation from near to far focusing distances. The color balance is excellent for a standard lens.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital camera with which lenses to combine? Please give your view on this maybe with your relevant experience in using this camera. I bought the body and very excited in choosing the lenses now. Please state, on the current market, the best possible lenses for canon/EOS 5DMARK II Thanks!
Best Answer That completely depends on what you will be photographing. Landscapes? Family and friends? Flowers? I find it strange that you spend over $2,000 on a camera body but have no idea what type of lens to use...
